I just found this forum. After over 40 years of not drowning worms, at age 72 I have started again. I bought a nice little 18' Alumicraft center console boat with a 40hp Yamaha. My son-in-law, Scott, and I go out several times a week. It's amazing how much I've forgotten. However it is coming back. I prefer catfishing, jug fishing and trotline fishing, where Scott prefers bass, jug, and trotline fishing. We've had marginal luck.

One tip I came up with has been most helpful running jugs after dark. I bought a box of 8" glow braclets. They are glowsticks that are about 1/4" in dia by 8" long and are straight. To make bracelets out of them you use the connectors that come with them, but I just throw the connectors away. I will take one, activate it, and affix it to my my noodle jugs with two rubber bands. It works great.

I fish Lake Sam Rayburn (East Texas) most of the time because it is only 15 minutes from our home. My mainline is 20' long and at the bottom I tie a 2# cannonball weight that I cast myself. 5' up from the weight I have my hook, which is affixed to a large barrel swivel. I place them on the edge of creekbeds in the flat area. First I drop the weight until it hits bottom, then I let out 4-5' more line and tie the excess line to the top part of the noodle's pipe with a nylon cable tie. It works great.

Our catches haven't been anything to brag about yet. Most of the catfish we catch are 1-5 pounds. Other than a couple of small (4-5 foot) gar, cat are all we have caught on either our jugs or our trotlines.

In Texas we have to have a tag on our jugs and trotline floats. I've found the easiest way to do this is to use my Dymo Labelwriter to put the information on a regular 1" x 4" mailing label and wrap it around the noodle's pipe. To make it last longer, I cover it with clear packing tape. I have ordered some waterproof inkjet vinyl label material that I will start using when it comes in.

Cy, its a pleasure to have an older gent on here. I have a question though, on your wieght and jug set up, are you only allowed to have one hook? sounds like a straight up and down trot line to me. We use those chemical sticks on alot of things when it comes to night fishin. handy for sure.... Well, Welcome to Catfish Corner...... Mac beerchug
